Internet market attracts 1.3m new customers in July
USB modem users decline, while usage of mobile internet rises

A report by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has shown that the number of internet users increased by 1.3m customers in July. Internet users in Egypt increased from 34.98m customers in June to 36.28m in July.
Mobile phone internet penetration achieved a growth rate of 4.67%, according to the report. The number of subscribers increased from 27.37m customers in June to 28.65m in July, with an increase of 1.28m new clients.
Subscribers to USB modems have declined by 40,000 clients in July, falling from 3.41m to 3.37m users in July—a drop of 1.06%.
Conversely, the number of users of fixed internet service ADSL went up by 1.34% in July, compared to June, recording a total number of 4.26m users from 4.2m in June, registering 60,000 new subscribers. According to the report, the Greater Cairo area acquired the largest number of internet users with 43% of total internet users. The Delta governorates came second with a share of 29%, while Alexandria, Marsa Matrouh, and Upper Egypt governorates each obtained a share of 11% of total internet users. The governorates that registered the least amount of internet users were Sinai, the Red Sea, and the Suez Canal cities, each of which obtained only 6% of the total number of users.
Indicators issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for July 2016 showed that the three mobile operators—Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat—attracted a total number of 189,400 new customers in July, increasing the number of mobile services subscribers from 96.22m in June to 96.4m in July.
Orange was the most attractive company for new clients, having acquired 96,700 new clients, hitting a total number of 33.7m users in July, up from 33.6m in June.
