CAIRO: Zamalek goalkeeper Abdel-Wahed Al-Sayed jumped to the defense of his Ahly counterpart Amir Abdel-Hamid after the latter was subjected to criticism in late. Abdel-Hamid received most of the beating after Ahly s 4-2 defeat to Pachuca in the Club World Cup last Saturday, but Al-Sayed slammed critics against his Egypt teammate. I have seen the post-match reaction on TV and I think the criticism on Amir was too fierce and inexplicable, Al-Sayed told FilGoal.com. I can see that his critics have little knowledge about goalkeeping. He does not deserve all that, because he cannot be solely blamed for Ahly s defeat. Al-Sayed rejected the notion of comparing Abdel-Hamid to his predecessor Essam Al-Hadari, insisting that the former has more to offer in the future. It is unfair to compare Amir to Hadari, because Amir needs time to cement his position as Ahly s number one, Al-Sayed added. Ironically, Al-Sayed was linked with a move to Ahly in the wake of Hadari s notorious departure last season. However, the 30-year-old has just committed his future to Zamalek after signing a new contract on Sunday.
