Nile Project: Swiss musician Bastian Baker to perform in concert in Aswan and Cairo
The visit is a part of the Nile Project; an initiative which aims to raise awareness of sustainable water projects by hosting musical concerts at Nile-adjacent cities

Following in the steps of Yanni and Morgan Freeman, Swiss singer Bastian Baker joins the list of celebrities visiting Egypt, contributing to boosting Egypt's struggling tourism industry.
From 7 to 12 February, the 24 year old singer will perform in both Cairo and Aswan, as well as visiting several social development project sites put into operation by the Swiss Embassy. Over the course of his trip, Baker aims to highlight the importance of sustainable development of the Nile ecosystem.
The visit is a part of the Nile Project; an initiative which aims to raise awareness of sustainable water projects by hosting musical concerts at Nile-adjacent cities.
"When Didier Burkhalter, Swiss minister of foreign affairs, told me about the Nile Project, I couldn't say no!" said Baker. "It's such a fantastic idea that music can aid the development of people and of underprivileged regions in our world. I'm very happy and proud to join the Nile Project."
"Switzerland sees cultural events as a vital tool for progress. We are very happy to have a Swiss celebrity, who embodies the values of young people, visit Egypt," said Swiss Ambassador to Egypt Markus Leitner.
"Bastian Baker will shine a light on the importance of sustainable development along the Nile, and on the projects that Switzerland has launched to assist thousands of people in Aswan: from boosting infrastructure in areas with water scarcity to fostering youth entrepreneurship. Baker's visit also promotes a positive message about tourism in Egypt."
The visit is a part of the Swiss contribution to economic development, employment, democratic transition, human rights, migration, and protection, in which Switzerland provides Egypt with funds totalling almost $20m.
