CAIRO: The 27th victim from the Maspero violence died early on Sunday inside al-Salam hospital, a medical source said. Magdy Asaad was among the injured on bloody Sunday that initially left 26 people dead and hundreds injured. Asaad died from wounds that resulted from being run over by an armored vehicle. He suffered internal brain bleeding and various breaks and chest bruises, which led to his death one week after he was hit. A full report about his wounds that led to his death will be issued soon, according to the medical source. On Sunday, October 9, thousands of Coptic Christians marched towards the state television and radio building, also known as Maspero, in a peaceful protest that turned deadly. Clashes erupted between demonstrators and the armed forces guarding the building attacked the demonstrators and some of the protesters were run over by armored cars. Despite the army's denial of any wrongdoing in a recent press conference, videos documenting the violence keep surfacing and proving the army's involvement in the bloodshed. BM
