CAIRO: Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa announced he intends to resign from his position and will not nominate himself for the chairmanship of the League after March. In a phone interview with Egyptian Television, Moussa said he plans to submit his resignation in the coming weeks but did not give details about his future plans. He had earlier said he is ready to take any post to serve his country in what may be a prelude to nominating himself for presidential elections. Moussa on Friday commended Egypt's youth and army for the “role they played in bringing about historic change” by ending President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule. He also called for building the nation's future on the basis of a national consensus, democracy and reforms. The Egyptian Armed Forces need to continue their role as a stabilizing force in order to build the new Egypt, he added. BM
