CAIRO: United States-based Human Rights First condemned the New Year's Eve bombing in front of the Saints Church in Alexandria, which killed 23 people and wounded dozens others. The organization said in an official statement that it feels the Egyptian government was not vigilant enough to be able to cope with the event. “The Egyptian authorities have been slow in bringing those responsible for attacks against Christians, as happened in the incident of Nag Hammadi in January 6, 2010, on the eve of Coptic Christmas,” read the statement. Human Rights First also said the failure of the Egyptian government in advancing political reform is what has contributed to further instability in Egypt and led to violence against Christians and a “horrific accident” such as the bombing of church.
