Applications for the L'Oréal-UNESCO "For Women in Science" Levant and Egypt Fellowships, a regional program launched by L'Oréal Foundation in 2014 in partnership with UNESCO, and the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon, opened today. Following the huge success of the past two years, L'Oréal and UNESCO decided to launch the Levant and Egypt Program for the third year in 2016. 5 new fellowships will be granted to 5 outstanding female postdoctoral researchers coming from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, State of Palestine, and Syria. Each new Fellow will receive € 10,000 in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of science and to further progress her career. The "For Women in Science" initiative is the result of an international cooperation between the L'OREAL Corporate Foundation and UNESCO. Since the creation of the program in 1998, over 2,250 greatly talented women have been distinguished in over 110 countries. Mr. Benoit Julia, Managing Director L'Oréal Egypt: "The aim of this fellowship is to bring visibility and support the work of exceptional Arab women scientists who help scientific knowledge progress and serve as models for younger generations. Coming from different backgrounds, the distinguished fellows of 2014 and 2015 represent tomorrow's scientists: creative, ambitious and determined to have a successful scientific career. Women across the Arab Region are changing the face of science and we want to ensure they get the recognition they deserve." Professor Mouin Hamzé, President of the Jury and Secretary General of the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon added: "It is a great pleasure for the CNRS Lebanon to partner with L'Oréal Foundation and UNESCO in a program which aims to empower Arab women scientists, recognize their achievements and contributions to the progress of science and scientific research, and acknowledge the role they play in the development of their countries". Applications can only be made through the online platform: www.fwis.fr by the candidates themselves, between the 18th of January and the 18th of April 2016. Applications will be adjudicated by a panel of eminent scientists, chaired by Professor Mouin Hamzé.
