Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Cairo Mansurbek Kilichev on Wednesday to discuss expanding cooperation and investment in renewable energy. The talks focused on new and renewable energy projects, particularly solar and wind power, as well as opportunities for private sector participation, according to a ministry statement. Esmat said Egypt is rebuilding its infrastructure and updating its regulatory framework to encourage investment in renewables, highlighting "promising opportunities to localise industry and establish solar and wind power plants." He added that the electricity sector is a top government priority, serving as a key driver of economic growth. Egypt, which enjoys abundant wind and solar resources, aims to raise the share of renewables in its energy mix to over 42 per cent by 2030 and 65 per cent by 2040, the minister said. Esmat emphasised that the government has created a favourable investment climate and is working with international financial institutions to expand renewable energy projects, positioning Egypt as one of the region's most attractive destinations for clean energy investment.
