Get to know Ramy El-Dokany; Egypt's new stock exchange chair

Ramy El-Dokany has been appointed on Thursday as chairman of the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX) for a one-year term, succeeding Mohamed Farid, who was named acting chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) earlier this month.
El-Dokany has around two decades of professional experience in the field of capital markets private equity, investments, corporate finance, strategic planning, fintech, and business development, accompanied by a strong educational background, from prominent local and international institutions.
Prior to being EGX chairman, he was elected as secretary-general of the Arab Federation of Exchanges since 2019 to formulate a common vision for the Arab capital markets and introduce fintech ideas. He has recently launched with AFE the first pan-Arab low carbon index along with Refinitiv, to promote sustainability in the region.
Moreover, El-Dokany co-founded Pride Capital in 2017 to utilise his long experience in financial services and investments and passion to technology, as he launched a fintech accelerator with Startupbootcamp in Cairo. The fintech programme is supported by AlexBank, Visa, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the German Agency for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (GIZ), Pharos Holding, Ayady, Export Development Bank of Egypt, and has invested in more than 11 startups in 1 year.
He has worked as a part-time consultant to the World Bank for almost seven years and sat on the investment committee of the MSMEDA Agency's fund of funds VC programme, in cooperation with the World Bank.
In addition, El-Dokany was vice president of Al-Ahly Capital Holding – the investment arm of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE). During this post, he was a board member at Alexandria Mineral Oils and BM Lease, Banque Misr's leasing arm.
He Holds an M.Sc. in Finance from Wales University and B.Sc. in economics from Cairo University. He was enrolled in the Oxford 10-weeks FinTech Programme, and holds a professional certification from the London Business School.
El-Dokany obtained an investment diploma from the Arab Academy for Science and Technology in 2012, and then had training courses in strategic thinking for executives from University of Cambridge, UK, in 2021.
