The band presents this heritage in a contemporary style. Independent band Almena (The Port) was founded with the intention of becoming a platform to explore and express Alexandria's rich musical identity with a fresh twist. Through their lyrics, the band's songs tackle social and economic issues, simultaneously blending different music genres from contemporary Arabic to blues, jazz, rock and reggae. Sun 23, 10pm: The Cairo Big Band Society is an Egyptian medley of 15+ of the finest jazz musicians in town, led by renowned jazz pianist Hesham Galal and everyone's favourite vocalist, Amr Yehia. Wed 26, 10pm: Mixing Arabic retro songs with disco beats, Disco Misr produce a delightful fusion that has been shaking the country for years.

Congo is this year's guest of honour, in addition to 17 participating countries including India, Greece, China, Yemen, Algeria, Jordan, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Egypt.
