A Giza court has renewed the detention of two Al-Jazeera Mubasher Misr crew members for 15 days pending trial on charges of using unlicensed transmission equipment.
Taher Saad and Hammam Mazen, a Palestinian, are accused of possessing and operating wireless equipment and broadcasting audiovisual content without required licenses.
On 20 September, a judicial statement announced two staffers at Al-Jazeera's Egyptian channel Al-Jazeera Mubashr Misr had been detained.
They were arrested at an Al-Jazeera Mubashr Misr office in Cairo's Agouza district Thursday and ordered to be detained for four days pending investigations. Authorities also seized the "unlicensed" equipment.
On 3 September, a Cairo court ordered Al-Jazeera Mubasher Misr be taken off air. The administrative court ruling also banned Al-Yarmouk, Al-Quds and Ahrar 25, regarded as channels linked to Islamists.
Egypt's government had already ordered a ban on thebroadcaster's Egyptian channellast week on allegations it lacked legal permits. The channel, now broadcast from Qatar, later challenged the authorities, publishing an alleged operating license issued by the Egyptian government.
