“Encounters”, is an exhibition of paintings by artist Hala Sabet currently showing at the Arcade gallery. Showcasing Sabet's latest paintings, produced in 2020, and reflecting on the Coronavirus experience. The artworks explore the contrast between social interactions and explorations and the serenity and quietness experienced in self-isolation. “As we flow through life, we observe, interact, feel, and reflect on everything we encounter. These encounters inspire and enrich our being. People, cars, nature, and even architecture enhance our senses and develop an inspiration that stays with us eternally,” Sabet explains. Born in Egypt in 1961, Sabet holds an MFA (with Distinction) in Fine Art Sculpture from West Dean College 2017, a BA (First Class Honours) Fine Art Sculpture from Northbrook College (2010-2015), and an Art Foundation Diploma (Merit) from Brighton City College, 2008. She has shown her paintings in several recent exhibitions including “Adour Summer” and “Composites” (both 2019) at the Skyway Gallery in Shoreham, UK, and “Critical Paths” at the Espacio Gallery, London (July 2017). Sabet joined the Royal British Society of Sculptors in 2016, and won the David Simmons cup for the painting Rocks and Pebbles 2 in 2009. The exhibition lasts until 19 February. *A version of this article appears in print in the 11 February , 2021 edition of Al-Ahram Weekly
