A strong earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale jolted Greece's Crete island on Wednesday at 9.23 am local time, and was felt in Cairo and other governors, according to Egyptian National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA). The quake was felt in some area in Cairo such as Helwan and Maadi, in addition to other areas in north Delta governorates, Dr Ahmed Badawi, head of the seismology department at NRIA said in a statement on Wednesday. It is expected to be followed by other small aftershocks, Badawi added, noting that the timing of the aftershocks is always unspecified and may occur after a day or two days or even a month. Crete's earthquake was recorded after two powerful earthquakes in Albania and Bosnia yesterday. However, there are no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.
