Tunisia kicked off their African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with an impressive 4-1 home victory over Libya while Morocco were held to a surprise goalless draw at home to Mauritania on Friday. Wahbi Khazri put Tunisia ahead in the 33rd minute when he buried home a rebound after his initial penalty was blocked by the keeper and Saif-Eddine Khaoui doubled the lead on 41 minutes with a low shot from inside the area. Libya's Hamdou El Houni narrowed the deficit on the stroke of halftime and the visitors wasted some easy chances early in the second half. They were punished for their wastefulness on 52 minutes when Khaoui ran onto a brilliant long pass from Ferjani Sassi to break clear and slot home with aplomb. Khazri was also on target again in stoppage time to complete the rout and give Tunisia, who reached the semi-finals of the Nations Cup earlier this year, a convincing opening victory. They top Group J of the qualifiers with three points, on level with Tanzania who beat Equatorial Guinea 2-1 earlier in the day. In Group E, Morocco looked sluggish, failing to break down a resolute Mauritania side. Central Africa top the group after defeating Burundi 2-0 on Thursday.
