Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head to Washington tonight to participate in the meeting of the Small Group of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS (D-ISIS) at the level of foreign ministers. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is scheduled to host the meeting on Thursday. Foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement on Wednesday that the D-ISIS meeting, which comes on the heels of the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, will tackle the role of the coalition in combating the terrorist organisation. The spokesperson added that the D-ISIS meeting will also assess the situation and future international movements, in light of recent developments in northeastern Syria. Hafez pointed out that Shoukry will also participate in the ministerial meeting of the Small Group of Syria, which is also due to be held in Washington. The Small Group of Syria includes Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, France, Britain, Germany, and the United States. The group's meeting, Hafez said, will discuss the latest developments in the Syrian arena and ways to advance the political settlement of the crisis and work to end the conflict in order to preserve the unity of Syria and the safety and stability of its territory and its brotherly people.
