Egypt's Ismailia governorate is continuing with efforts to remove accumulated garbage as part of a plan by the government to clean up trash nationwide. Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad has said that the volume of recycling in Egypt does not exceed 20 percent, adding that there are plans to raise this figure to 80 percent within seven years. The efforts to remove garbage in Ismailia comes in response to complaints by resident over the mounting piles of garbage in a particular area in the governorate. Social media users have named the 20-acre area "garbage mountain."
