Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated today, 21 July, in the framework of celebrations of the 1,050th National Day of Cairo, the first phase of the Roxy Garage project — the first fully mechanised, electronic garage in Egypt and the Middle East.
Cairo governor Khaled Abdel-Aal attended the launch of the garage as well as two former Cairo governors, a number of ministers, the chairperson of Arab Organisations for Industrialisation, the South Korean ambassador, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, and number of Egyptian parliament deputies.
Engineer Hani El-Shinchan explained to the prime minister that the garage is the second largest in Cairo after the Tahrir garage, with many floors, and the first in the Middle East in terms of its advanced operating and management system.
El-Shinchan explained that the garage, which was built at a cost of EGP 300 million, is a “cell” system and each cell can hold six cars. In addition, it meets all the requirements of civil defense and fire regulations and will be regularly maintained by highly trained personnel.
The garage is equipped with six robots to park vehicles, transferring them from the inside to the outside and vice versa.
Additionally, there are 12 electronic elevators that will examine the cars once they are standing on them. He clarified that the vehicle storage and recall time takes 3-6 minutes, and there are three exits and three entrances.
El-Shinchan added that the Roxy garage contains four underground floors at a depth of 16 meters with a total area of 10,000m2 and a building space of 40,000m2 with a total capacity of 1,700 cars.
He added that the project is divided into two stages, where the first is of 5,300m2 and a building space of 21,000m2 and will include capacity for 900 cars, while the second phase will be ready by 2020.
The Cairo governorate had explained earlier that the garage is the first of its kind in Egypt and that studies were underway on constructing similar garages in Cairo, in Helwan and Downtown, which will be funded by the World Bank.
After the launch, Prime Minister Madbouly pointed out that this vital project will help restore the cultural glamour of the capital to become once again the centre of civilisation and history.
The Roxy Garage will also help decrease traffic in Heliopolis and its surroundings, especially at Court Square, as the opening of the first trial of Merryland Park in Heliopolis brought many visitors who specifically need this type of garage.
Cairo is about to witness the establishment of many major projects, such as the development of Maspero Triangle and Al-O'yoon Aqueduct Bridge, according to Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel-Aal.
