Veteran Ahly goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy criticized the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to suspend him for two games right before a decisive two-leg semifinal against Algerian ES Setif. “What happened was nothing more than an argument with the paramedics because of the way they treated our injured players,” Ekramy posted on his Twitter account late on Monday. CAF notified Ahly on Monday about their decision to suspend Ekramy because of an incident with the paramedics during the quarterfinal first-leg game against Guinea's Horoya Conakry on 14 September. The eight-time African champions Ahly will miss Ekramy this evening in the tournament's semifinal in Cairo against Algerian ES Setif and also in the second leg on 23 October. “I respect the CAF and its decisions, but why wasn't I suspended for the second leg of the quarterfinal? Is it that easy to deprive players from participating in the final stages of the tournament?” Ahly were hit on 29 September with a two-match fan restriction and fined by the CAF after offensive chants from their fans during the Champions League quarterfinal against Horoya on 22 September. However, the ban is suspended for the remainder of the 2018 season on condition that Ahly is not found guilty of a similar offence during this period.
