The Director of the development division at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Abdel Moneim "Shatta" Hussein, has revealed on Monday that the African interclub competitions will switch from their current February-to-November format to an August-to-May calendar starting in 2019. "We will maintain the actual schedule for both competitions (CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup) in 2018 and starting from 2019 we will begin with the new calendar that kicks off in August," he told the Egyptian radio programme "El Kora fi Malaabak." Last July the CAF executive committee agreed to a change in timing for interclub competitions but did not set a fixed date. The committee met last Saturday in Accra, Ghana, and decided among other matters "to postpone the considerations for the transition of the interclub competitions from February-to-November to August-to-May." The statement added that "the matter will be examined by the Interclub Committee, which is now fully constituted, before forwarding their recommendations to the Executive Committee." Many countries, especially those which have an August-to-May domestic season calendar, have complained that the current format gives little room for their teams to rest and interferes with their pre-seasons preparations.
