The Independent Shabab Foundation will hold Luxor's First African Film Festival from February 21 to February 28. According to the website, the event was the brainchild of screenwriter Sayed Fouad who felt that African films were not being screened enough in Egypt. “The festival intends to decentralize the cultural events in Egypt and take them outside Cairo and Alexandria,” the website reports. The festival will include a feature films and short films competition in addition to a number of workshops and seminars for young African filmmakers, one of which will be moderated by Egyptian director Samir Seif. Nine African countries will participate in the festival, which is supported by the Egyptian ministries of Culture, Tourism, and Foreign Affairs.
