Algerian Minister of Culture, Khaleeda Toomy, retreated from her declarations in which she pledged to prevent Islamists from taking over power in Algeria. She said it is a public choice that should be respected. She added in press declarations she is convinced she has no right to assess the people's choice, in a comment on the ascent of Islamists' power in Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. About the situation in Algeria, she said freedom of expression in Algeria is not a gift, adding Algerians gained their rights through struggle for decades. She added Algerians exerted a lot of effort to gain freedom of expression. She expressed her confidence in Algerians will defend and struggle to keep their legal rights. Director general of the Algerian Islamic Movement of al-Nahda, Fateh al-Rabiee, demanded the Algerian president to dismiss Algeria's Minister of Culture for her recent anti-Islamists declarations.
