World Bank released a report revealing remittances to developing countries during the current year of 2011, which will rise to U.S. $351 billion and total remittances worldwide, including high-income countries, to U.S. $483 billion. According to the report published on the official World Bank website, Lebanon received the highest rate in attracting foreign exchange on the level of Middle Eastern level. It is also the eighth largest country receiving remittances from abroad worldwide, accounting for a flow of about 21.4 percent of it's GDP, which helps to maintain the debt-laden economy afloat, according to CNN. Transfers to Jordan reached 2.048 billion dinars, compared to the 2.138 billion dinars recorded during the same period in 2010. According to official figures released by the Jordanian Ministry of Finance, emigrants remittances declined in October by 2.7 percent, estimated at 6 million dinars. Egypt experienced an increase in the number of remittances of about U.S. $12.4 billion despite the political situation, an increase of U.S. $2.8 billion in 2010.
