CAIRO: Newly appointed Minister of Interior Mohammad Ibrahim pledged to never use violence against protesters like what happened during clashes between Tahrir protesters and security forces in Mohammad Mahmoud St. This was his first statement to Egyptian TV. "There are no men like [former Minister of Interior] Habib al-Adly in the ministry now. We will deal with every violator firmly and if a person does not do their work properly should bear the responsibility, even if that person was me," Ibrahim said. He noted former Minister of Interior Habib al-Adly is an imprisoned man and none of his men are inside the ministry. Ibrahim noted during the upcoming period, the policemen, officers and leaders will descend to the streets and will be deployed among the citizens to assure citizens with security. The ministry will never throw another teargas canister against any demonstrator and will never use violence while breaking up sit-ins or demonstrations, Ibrahim added. He called up on a company owner to meet his employees' demands to prevent any possible protesters. He called on all audible and visible media means to help the Ministry of Interior to control security in Egypt because the security is one of the most important issues in Egypt. As for restructuring the ministry, Ibrahim said the reformation should be carried out but after knowing how to apply a system to the ministry first. He noted also there should be difference between the revolutionaries and thugs. He declined to comment about the clashes in Mohammad Mahmoud St., pointing out the Public Prosecution is responsible for the investigations in these incidents. Ibrahim said the security dealing with demonstrators in Mohammad Mahmoud St. was a fatal mistake and will never happen again. The negotiations will be conducted with Tahrir protesters and with those demonstrating outside the Egyptian Cabinet headquarters, he continued.
