CAIRO: The first phase of Egypt's parliamentary elections was not fair, according to Ayman Nour, founder of al-Ghad al-Thawra Party and presidential hopeful. While the election process may not have witnessed fraud, but there were great influences over the results and social justice disappeared, Nour said during a weekly party meeting. He added that he accepted the results of the election. Nour condemned the Supreme Electoral Committee, saying it did not comment on the fact that some candidates paid millions for their campaigns in direct violation of electoral law. He said some candidates exploited forces such as satellite channels belonging to them to promote themselves. "Egypt will never be prey for any specific current," said Nour, adding that he will call all forces to create a new alliance. Nour blamed some violations on the electoral law issued by Egypt's ruling military council, saying it was illogical and unfair. Last week Egypt held the first round of elections for the People's Assembly, the lower house of Egypt's bicameral parliament, and runoff elections for some independent seats were held Monday and Tuesday of this week. It is Egypt's first vote since a popular uprising toppled the country's three-decade ruler and his regime earlier this year.
