CAIRO: As Egyptians flock en masse to Tahrir Sqaure this morning to participate in a million-man demonstration dubbed “The Salvation of Egypt,” violent and bloody clashes on Mohamed Mahmoud Street persist for the fourth consecutive day. Protestors recently pushed back security forces, seizing control of the street, which continues to change hands in one of the most violent confrontations between Ministry of Interior forces and demonstrators since the January 25 Revolution. Protestors erected iron and wooden barricades amidst heavy tear-gassing and volleys of rubber-coated bullets. Many injuries on both sides continue to stir unrest. The security forces closed the entrances to the Egyptian Ministry headquarters, erecting barbed wire barricades of their own and arresting any who attempt to storm the Interior compound. Meanwhile the ad hoc field hospital in Tahrir continues to grapple with significant numbers of injured protestors, many of whom are transported from the battlefield on Mohamed Mahmoud via motorcycle.
