Hazem Salah Abu Ismail Arabic: حازم صلاح أبو إسماعيل Born: August 19, 1951 Sheikh Hazem Salah Abu Ismail is an Islamic preacher and potential presidential candidate. The son of well-known Al-Azhar scholar Salah Abu Ismail, he is a former parliamentarian, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a lawyer, and a spokesman on Islamic thought and political affairs. Abu Ismail graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University in 1982, ranked third in his class. He earned a master's degree in Forensic Science from the University of Bruxelles in 1987 and a doctorate from the University of Seattle in research management in 1990. Abu Ismail has studied law and constitutional law extensively, as well as studying education, administration, and economy. Abu Ismail announced his intention to run for president in May 2011. In 2005, Abu Ismail was elected to parliament in Cairo's Dokki neighborhood. However, the electoral committee later retracted their announcement of Abu Ismail's victory in favor of the district's National Democratic Party candidate.
