The April 6 Youth Movement distributed more than 103,000 publications in 30 days as part of its “Black and White Circles for political awareness” campaign. The campaign aims to highlight the importance of the upcoming People's Assembly elections and to raise awareness of members of Egypt's formerly ruling regime and now-dissolved National Democratic Party who are running for elections. Elections for the People's Assembly, the lower house of Egypt's bicameral parliament, are slated to begin November 28. The campaign is pursuing such candidates in 9 governorates, including Cairo, Giza, Menoufia, Gharbia, Qalyubia, South Sinai, Alexandria, and Damietta. In greater Cairo, the April 6 Movement distributed 5,000 publications in Imbaba; 7,000 in Downtown; 20,000 in Heliopolis; and 10,000 in Dokki. They also distributed 10,000 in Menoufia; 10,000 in Damietta; 6,000 in Gharbia; and 5,000 in Banha. The group's media spokesman, Mahmoud Afifi, said the movement's activists discussed the importance of the citizens' role in upcoming parliamentary elections and the danger imposed by NDP remnants' candidacy in the elections. Afifi said the campaign's youth decorated the walls with graphic art works as a first phase and a prelude to the second phase. The second phase of the campaign will incorporate various activities to reach more citizens through national conferences. It will also pursue NDP remnants who run for elections, hoping to isolate them. Four political movements in Alexandria held the first exhibition of its kind in Alexandria University on Saturday, October 29. The groups that participated included ‘Lazim,' or ‘Have to be,' the national campaign to support change's demands; ‘Khod Balak' or ‘Take care;' the, Kefaya Movement; and the April 6 Youth Movement. The exhibition aimed to raise awareness of students about the parties supporting the former NDP and the name of the parties' founders. The political movements distributed 1,000 brochures and 1,000 statements for political awareness.
