Chairman of the Public Institute of Urban Planning in the Ministry of Housing, Mostafa Madbouli, said the strategic plan for urban development, named “Egypt 2052,” will build 31 new urban communities over the next 40 years including five “million-man” cities. In a statement to Youm7 Madbouli said, “Our goals do not focus only on Al-Alamein city or East Port Said city, but these cities' plans were included with other cities as one of the goals for Egypt's development strategy.” The strategy includes the development of 32 compounds. It also includes building 117 new rural compounds and developing 15 existing compounds. According to Madbouli, 12 million acres are needed to accommodate population increases. The Ministry of Housing finished preparations for the primary project of the development strategy across several governorates, including the Sinai Peninsula, al-Alamein, Al-Qatara, and the Suez Gulf.
