CAIRO: Presidential candidate Mohamed Selim al-Awa said Egypt's upcoming parliamentary elections should be based on a proportional representation system. He also refused extending the Emergency Law, which was announced by Egypt's ruling military council last week. Awa expressed his support for the escalation adopted by Islamic trends against the ruling military council, as the authority which holds power, for not responding to the will of the people. He added that he will escalate criticism against the ruling council. He said, "We supported the military council as it supported the desire of the Egyptian people, but we will not support the council if it refuses to respond to the will of the people." Regarding the expected reaction should the military council refuse the demands raised by Egypt's political powers, Awa said, "We await the decision of the military council and then we will make our decision."
