The current antitrust law encourages monopolies, Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Gouda Abdel Khalek today reported, claiming that there is a need to modify this law and investigate all those who commit this crime, much like the practice in Japan. Khalek made these claims today during the Conference of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies. The conference was titled, “Food Security of Egypt in Light of Domestic and International Variables.” There are five businesses in Egypt who currently monopolize the rice industry, which in turn negatively affects the producers and the consumer, the minister added.
