Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman's family held a seminar in front of the U.S. embassy in Cairo, entitled ‘the return of Omar Abdel-Rahman supports Egypt's national security.' The seminar was attended by Abood al-Zomor and a number of supporters of Abdel Rahman. The seminar was opened by a speech delivered by Abdel Rahman's son, who presented his father's biography. He added his father refused many positions offered by the former regime, pointing out the religious scholar worked to save the youth and the state. Abood al-Zomor also delivered a speech during the seminar. HE said protecting Egypt's national security will not be achieved by increasing the armed forces or the central security working to protect the rulers positions. Al-Zomor raised the necessity of Abdel Rahman's return to support national security of Egypt. He added there is a need to achieve political development and open the door for serious participation for citizens by formulating the identity and independent personality of the citizens. Socially, al-Zomor called to achieve unity inside the society to be able to confront internal and foreign challenges by forming unified families. Economically, he said there is a need to avoid forbidden economic deals and to clarify Islamic economic teachings and commit to them. He called for the unification of the entire society to confront such threats. Al-Zomor highlighted the cordial relations gathering Abdel Rahman and the Arab states, which paves the way to restoring Egyptian relations with Arab countries, especially since these relations deteriorated throughout the recent years. One of Al-Azhar scholars, Mohamed Salah, said Omar Abdel Rahman was first to call to confront and fight corruption. He described Abdel Rahman as the leader of strugglers in Egypt. He added the former regime accused Abdel Rahman of extremism and terrorism. Salah praised the teachings of Abdel Rahman, drawing a comparison between Prophet Mohamed and Abdel Rahman. He clarified the prophet of Islam was chased until he left to Mekka then al-Madina al-Monawara, while Abdel Rahman was chased until he left Egypt to the U.S., where he is currently imprisoned.
