Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliated political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), has opened a number of educational centers in many cities in Egypt's governorates. Among them are centers in Kafr el-Sheikh and Riyad. The groups plan to open other centers in all major cities in the provinces. Brotherhood member Abdulla Musbah said the aim of creating educational centers is to ease the burden on parents, who spend a great deal of money on private tuition. A government-sponsored study released earlier this month revealed that 33 percent of educational expenses by Egyptians were spent on private lessons for their children. Among Egypt's poorer and less educated families, the number was found to be around 36 percent. The FJP honored a number of outstanding students from the villages of Eshaka and Shamerka and the city of Kafr el-Sheikh in the presence of Mohamed Shaker Sennar, a member of the party's governing council, and former Brotherhood parliamentarians and other prominent Brotherhood figures.
