The special Islamic month of Ramadan in Egypt increased the number of youth in charity activities. Noha Tag (22) said she loved to volunteer for charity particularly in Ramadan. "I volunteer to hear prayers of good luck," Tag said. Tag volunteered to work at a charity organization, Resala, for three years. She is working more hours during Ramadan by collecting rice, pasta, oil bottles in plastic bags and distribute these bags to the poor. Dina Ibrahim is responsible for sorting clothes in Resala and she said volunteer work is popular during Ramadan. Volunteers prefer participating in sorting and distributing clothes. They also participate in selling these clothes in the annual charity exhibition, where clothes are sold cheap throughout Egypt. The profit of this exhibition goes to orphanage houses. "Volunteers search for people who need clothes. They wash and iron the clothes then distribute them to the poor," Ibrahim said. Fatma Mohamed Abdel Hamid is responsible for mosque reconstruction and she said the number of mosques that need construction increased during Ramadan. They aim to reconstruct 500 mosques throughout Egypt this year. Ayman Kamal is a volunteer in environmental activity and said they clean and paint streets and hold environmental awareness campaigns. New volunteers are encouraged to participate. Arabic here
