Armed men attacked a prisoner transfer vehicle in Qalyubia governorate in the Nile Delta today. The men seized the vehicle, released a volley of gunfire and managed to secure the release of two prisoners held inside. Director of Qalyubia Security Maj. Gen. Ahmed Salem el-Naghy received the incident notification from Brig. Gen. Osama Ayesh. A search team headed by Maj. Gen. Mohamed el-Koseery was dispatched to the site to investigate. Investigators discovered that armed men on motorcycles and inside a truck attacked both the transfer vehicle and the prisoner escort vehicle. Multiple rounds of gunfire succeeded in stopping the vehicles and freeing the prisoner. Some of the suspected gunmen have been identified, claimed a security source, and a manhunt is underway. Preliminary reports suggest the suspects fled toward the el-Mawaleh region, in the direction of the Golden Triangle in Shebin el-Qanatir. The prosecution will question officers in the security escort vehicle that was accompanying the transfer vehicle, and empty bullet casings were collected from the scene for ballistics analysis. The prosecution immediately issued arrest warrants for the identified suspects.
