The goal of Islam is to ensure the economic efficiency of the individual, said Dr. Aly el-Salous, Islamic economic professor at Qatar University. He said the Islamic concept of charity enriches the poor but never impoverishes the rich. Dr. Salous' comments came in the form of a lecture given at the first economic conference set up by the Salafist al-Nour Party. Islamic economy would be able to lift Egypt from its current economic crisis and ensure prosperity, he said. Abdul Rahman Youssry, professor of Islamic economics at the Faculty of Commerce in Alexandria University, discussed the urgent need for the expansion in the study of Islamic economy in universities. He suggested adopting creative ways to get engaged in the global economy without engaging in acts of violation of the usury law. The conference announced its adoption to the option of expansion in financing small and medium-sized business which would be the fastest way to decrease unemployment among Egyptian youth. On the sidelines of the conference, nearly 600,000 EGP (U.S. $101,000) was donated by businessmen to support small and medium enterprises that aim to support the party's economic vision.
