An Egyptian political party specifically for women has been created in the wake of Egypt's January 25 Revolution. Poet and writer Reem Abu Eid established the Modern Woman Party. "Egyptian women are facing a deliberating neglect in society," said Abu Eid, "So we decided to establish the Modern Woman Party. " She added, "The Egyptian woman participated in the Egyptian revolution with the men. She faced danger and made sacrifices. So, she must find an entity through which she can express herself, particularly after some people tried to demolish her role in society." "The Modern Woman Party doesn't oppose men. On the contrary, even some of its organizers are men," said Abu Eid. She added that the party welcomes any woman wants to join other parties. She said the goal is achieving women's political participation and decision making. "The party will focus on unfair laws against woman which were made by the former regime, particularly the law that stops pay women a pension after they marry, " said Abu Eid. The most important goals of the Modern Woman Party are promoting Egyptian women, protecting their rights, preparing rules which protect women from all forms of violence, protecting rural women, promoting women's education, and eliminating illiteracy. Abu Eid said, "The Modern Woman Party is different from other women's parties under the former regime, because it ensures women's political participation.”
