ALEXANDRA, Egypt: A 17-year-old girl hung herself in her bedroom Friday night. She took her life after performing poorly in her exams and failing to get the grades necessary to enter the university of her choice. The head representative of the Ministry of Interior in Alexandria, General Mostafa Shehata, received a report of the body of a young girl found in her home. Upon further investigation, the body was discovered to belong to Hanadi Mahmoud Mokhtar, a secondary school student from the district of Bahig. The initial investigation showed there was bruising on her neck. According to her father, 50-year-old government employee Mahmoud Mokhtar Hamoud, Hanadi was suffering from deep depression as a result of her poor academic performance. She hung herself using shawls hanging from her bedroom window. Her father cut her down and placed her body on her bed in her room after discovering her.
