The Ministry of Antiquities denied the theft of artifacts belonging to different sectors of the ministry during the last period. It said there was no truth to reports saying that 4,200 artifacts have been moved from the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo to the presidential palaces. In a press statement issued by the ministry, the head of the Museum of Islamic Art, Attiya Radwan, said that no one had issued any orders to send 4,200 artifacts to the presidential palaces. Mohammed Abbas, general director of the Museum of Islamic Art, said that in the case of the loan of any piece owned by the museum for display in exhibitions or other museums, all appropriate legal and security measures are taken to safeguard it, along with approval from the Ministry of Antiquities. He said that no pieces were taken out of the museum during the renovation of the storage units. The storage units contain over 95 thousand pieces, and another 2400 will eventually be added, said Abbas.
