CAIRO: Egypt's Minister of Antiquities, Zahi Hawass, addressed the head of a Jewish society in Germany and asked him to deliver any Egyptian antiquities the society possesses back to the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities. A Jewish archaeologist was working around the Great Pyramids's area in 1910 and discovered the antiquities that are now owned by the society, Hawass said in a special statement to Youm7. The Antiquities Law at the time allowed him to take half of his discoveries and he returned with them to Germany. Hawass added the archaeologist was forced to sell the antiquities in 1963 to a German university until the Jewish society filed a lawsuit against the university on behalf of the archeologist. The society's purpose is to defend Jews' rights in Europe. Hawass believes these antiquities belong to Egypt by right and he will recourse to the International Court of Justice and UNESCO if necessary in order to return the antiquities to Egypt.
