CAIRO: Muslims and Coptic Christians swapped fire in al-Galaa Street under the 6 October Bridge in downtown Cairo today. The shots came after the groups threw stones at each other for several hours outside Maspiro, the Egyptian Television and Radio headquarters. An estimated 20,000 Coptic Christians demonstrated outside the Egyptian High Court of Justice in al-Galaa Street before the violence broke out. Several were injured. Some Christians attacked several cars in the street as they marched to Maspiro, where they protested last night's incident in Imbaba. Ten were killed and over 200 injured when clashes broke out between Salafis, a fundamentalist Islamic sect, and Coptic Christians. A church was also burned. Arabic here.
