Zambia made history by winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after edging out a thrilling penalty shootout to down Ivory Coast. A goalless draw in four halves sent the game to penalties after Ivory Coast star and captain Didier Drogba had blasted a 70th minute spot kick high. The scoreline meant that Ivory Coast keeper Boubacar Barry managed to finish the tournament with no goals conceded. But Barry was beaten seven times on penalties by Chris Katongo, Emmanuel Mayuka, Isaac Chansa, Felix Katongo, Kennedy Mweene, Nathan Sinkala and Chisamba Lungu. On the other hand, Cheick Tiote, Wilfried Bony, Sol Bamba, Max Gradel, Drogba, Siaka Tiene and Didier Konan scored for Ivory Coast. With the score tied at 7-7, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure stepped up to be denied by Zambia keeper Mweene, only for Rainford Kalaba to miss for Zambia. Ivory Coast failed again as Gervinho, another Premier League star, missed the target, but this time Stophira Sunzu scored to win the cup for the Chipolopolo.
