Former FIFA presidential candidate Mohamed Bin Hammam has been handed a life ban by the world governing body after being accused of bribery. “Mohamed bin Hammam (FIFA Executive Committee member) was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for a period of life,” a FIFA statement read. The FIFA ethics committee judged that the 62-year-old Qatar tried to buy votes in his quest to replace president Sepp Blatter ahead of the elections that was supposed to take place last month. Swiss Blatter eventually remained FIFA chairman after he ran for the post against no other candidate, following Bin Hammam's withdrawal. Bin Hammam, the former chairman of the Asian football association, said that he will fight against the decision with all legal means available.
