Egypt scored their maiden victory in the Handball World Championship upon beating Tunisia 27-23. The Pharaohs lost to Germany and holders France in their first two matches in the competition. However, they put in an assured performance against Tunisia to end their losing streak. "Our level of performance is developing. We produced a good display against Germany but wasted many scoring chances," Egypt star Ahmed Al-Ahmar stated after Saturday's game. "We were also better than France, although we lost. I think we will be able to pull off a good result against Spain (on Wednesday)." Speaking of the Tunisia match, Al-Ahmar said: "It wasn't easy for us at the beginning because we didn't faced them before, but we eventually won."
