Asian Football Confederation chairman Mohamed Bin Hammam said Qatar's neighboring countries were unlikely to host games at the 2022 World Cup. FIFA president Sepp Blatter said recently that some matches at the football's most prestigious event could take place in 'nearby countries'. "Blatter's suggestion was aimed at giving other countries the chance to share the joy of Qatar after the country was granted that honor of hosting the World Cup," Qatari Bin Hammam, who is also a FIFA vice-president, told Egyptian satellite channel Modern Kora. "But this (holding some games in other countries) is currently not an option for the World Cup organizing committee. "But anyway, we still have plenty of time to discuss any ideas. We don't know what could happen in the future." Qatar became the first country in the Arab region and Middle East to be awarded the rights to host the World Cup after beating off competition from the United States, Australia, South Korea and Japan.
