Zamalek have called off their friendly game against Romania's Steaua Bucharest to save money, the club said on Friday. The Cairo giants, who are holding their pre-season training camp in Swiss canton St. Gallen, were due to face Steaua on July 13 in Austrian city Salzburg. "We opted not to go back to Austria to save money and prevent the players from suffering exhaustion," Zamalek said in a brief statement. Zamalek slumped to a 3-0 defeat by Neuchatel Xamax last Monday before crushing fellow Swiss club St. Gallen 4-0 two days later. The White Knights will face Swiss second-division side FC Winterthur on Saturday. They will open their Egyptian Premier League campaign against cup holders Harras Hodoud on August 5.
