France striker Nicolas Anelka has been sent home from the World Cup for insulting coach Raymond Domenech, the French Football Federation said on (FFF) said on Saturday. Anelka insulted the under-fire Domenech at halftime of France's surprising 2-0 defeat by Mexico on Thursday. The Chelsea man, who was substituted with Andre-Pierre Gignac immediately afterwards, refused to apologize and was consequently kicked out of the World Cup. "The comments made by Nicolas Anelka towards national coach Raymond Domenech are totally unacceptable for the French Football Federation, French soccer and the values they defend," the FFF said in a statement. Domenech opted to field Anelka in his side's goalless draw with Uruguay and the loss to Mexico at the expense of Thierry Henry but he hardly repaid the faith of his coach. France, who won the World Cup in 1998 and finished as runners up in 2006, face an embarrassing elimination from the group stage. They have just one point from two games and will have to beat South Africa in their final group game to stand any chance of booking a last-16 berth. Even a win could not be enough to lift them through. Uruguay and Mexico, who both have four points, will qualify for the knockout phase at the expense of France and South Africa if they draw on Tuesday.
