Germany will be without first-choice goalkeeper Rene Adler in next month's World Cup due to a rib injury, manager Joachim Loew has confirmed. "Of course we are very sorry that Rene now has to undergo an operation and so is out of the World Cup," said the Germany boss. The Leverkusen guardian, who broke his rib last month, has taken over as Germany number one following the tragic death of Robert Enke in 2009. Another Leverkusen player who has been confirmed out of the South Africa finals is midfielder Simon Rolfes, who has a knee injury. Loew will announce his provisional 30-man squad on Thursday.
