Libyan side Ittihad have apologized to Ahli defender Wael Gomaa after he sustained a head wound during Friday's African Champions League clash between both sides. A stone thrown from the home crowd at the 11 June Stadium in Tripoli injured Gomaa after Ittihad won 2-0 in the first leg of the competition's round of 16. The Egypt defender, who was beaten in air two times to gift Ittihad two goals, needed four stitches in his head. Ahli, who also complained about a laser beam aimed by Ittihad fans on keeper Ahmed Adel, said they considered filing a complaint with African governing body CAF over the incidents. Ittihad officials tried to contain the situation. "On behalf on the club and its fans, we apologize to Gomaa," board member Mohamed Al-Agha said. "What happened is totally unintentional. The security personnel did their best and appeared in a good shape." Six-time African champions Ahli, who risk missing out on a place in the Champions League group stage for the second successive season, host Ittihad at Cairo Stadium in the second leg next month. "We once again apologize to Gomaa and Ahli. We are looking forward to playing in a friendly atmosphere in the second leg," Al-Agha added.
