Mido has to fight for his place in West Ham's starting line-up, coach Gianfranco Zola said on Friday. The Egyptian striker cut short his loan spell with Zamalek, whom he joined last summer from English second-division side Middlesbrough, to resurrect his career in the Premier League. Mido reportedly accepted a weekly salary of £1,000 to play at West Ham until the end of the season. "We know Mido has qualities," Italian coach Zola was quoted as saying by London Evening Standard. "It is up to him now, how much he wants to play at the highest level. "He knows the position here, he knows it won't be easy to break into the team but from what I have seen in the first few days training it looks like he is determined to prove himself." Mido will vie with the likes of Carlton Cole, Guillermo Franco and fellow new signing Benedict McCarthy to earn a place in West Ham's starting XI. The former Tottenham Hotspur man has been included in the team's squad for Saturday's league game against Burnley. "In our team the player who deserves most to play, will play. If Mido proves himself better than the others, he will be in the team," Zola added. West Ham lie 15th in the league table with 21 points. Only goal difference separates them from the relegation zone.
