The Argentine comfortably outran last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo by a record 240 points. He also became the first ever player from Argentina to win the gong. Messi had an extraordinary year at Nou Camp, inspiring Barca to the treble with a staggering 38 goals in all competitions. The 22-year-old is also a frontrunner for the FIFA World Player of the Year award that will be announced next week.
